HIALEAH, FL. - ASA Miami head baseball coach Jonathan Hernandez and his team will travel to Ft. Myers later this month to kick-off the 2018 season against Florida Southwestern. This season marks the fourth year at the helm of the ASA Miami baseball program for Coach Hernandez. ASA is looking to earn their first win against FSW in program history during the three game series beginning on January 26th at City of Palms Park. The Silver Storm are 0-4 against the Buccaneers all-time.
ASA Miami is one of the two members of Region VIII as a division-two program along with Pasco Hernando in New Port Richey, Florida. Last season, ASA defeated Pasco in a best-of-three series and advanced to the 2017 Region X Tournament which includes teams from North Carolina, Virginia and the winner of Florida's Region VIII. ASA and Pasco will play a three-game series during the regular season in March and then the deciding series at the conclusion of the season in late April. Coach Hernandez and his staff is looking forward to earning a trip back to the tournament, but first they must get past a well coached Pasco-Hernando ball club. The 2018 Region X tournament takes place at Burlington Athletic Stadium in Burlington, NC from May 11-15.
Even though ASA is a DII baseball program, the Silver Storm face one of the toughest schedules in the country every year. Their 2018 42-game schedule currently includes 28 games against NJCAA Division I programs. Of those 28 games, 20 are against the ultra-competitive Southern Conference which includes Miami Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Eastern Florida and Indian River.
