OCALA, FL. - The 16th Annual Florida Junior College Men's Basketball Shootout took place this weekend on the campuses of the College of Central Florida (Ocala, FL) and Sante Fe College (Gainesville, FL). All 20 NJCAA Division I teams that are members of Region VIII participated.
ASA went 1-1 during the shootout. The Silver Storm won their first matchup against Hillsborough Community College on Saturday - 62-53 and let a lead slip away against Florida State College of Jacksonville on Sunday - 59-62. ASA was led by Sophomore Eugene Joseph who averaged 16 points, 12 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in the two games while shooting 52 percent from the field. Against Hillsborough, Joseph grabbed a season-high 15 rebounds. That would tie the school record for most rebounds in a game.
Head Coach Jean Dubuisson has built this program from the ground up and shown steady improvement each year since the programs inception in 2014. Through 14 games this season, the Silver Storm have a 6-8 record. That leaves them one win shy of the teams win total from last year - seven. "We have a great group of kids this year." Dubuission said. "We will go through our ups and our downs, but with every practice, every game, we will mature and look back on how much we have improved since day one."
NEXT UP | ASA will take on Hillborough Community College for the third time this season at home on Friday, December 15th at Barry University. Tip-off is set for 7pm.
